Fractional exclusion statistics and shot noise in ballistic conductors

چکیده
We study the noise properties of ballistic conductors with carriers satisfying fractional exclusion statistics. To test directly the nature of exclusion statistics we found that systems under weakly degenerate conditions should be considered. Typical of these systems is that the chemical potential m is in the thermal range umu ,3kBT . In these conditions the noise properties under current saturation are found to depend upon the statistical parameter g, displaying suppressed shot noise for 1/2<g<1, and enhanced shot noise for 0,g ,1/2, according to the attractive or repulsive nature of the carrier exclusion statistics.

Shot-noise suppression by Fermi and Coulomb correlations in ballistic conductors
We investigate the injection of degenerate Fermi-Dirac electrons into a multimode ballistic conductor under the space-charge-limited regime. The nonequilibrium current fluctuations were found to be suppressed by both Coulomb and Fermi correlations. We show that the Fermi shot-noise-suppression factor is limited below by the value 2kBT/«F , where T is the temperature and «F the Fermi energy of t...
متن کاملShot-noise suppression in multimode ballistic Fermi conductors
We have derived a general formula describing current noise in multimode ballistic channels connecting source and drain electrodes with Fermi electron gas. In particular ~at eV@kBT), the expression describes the nonequilibrium ‘‘shot’’ noise, which may be suppressed by both Fermi correlations and space charge screening. The general formula has been applied to an approximate model of a two-dimens...
متن کاملSemiclassical theory of shot noise in mesoscopic conductors
A semiclassical theory is developed for time-dependent current fluctuations in mesoscopic conductors. The theory is based on the Boltzmann-Langevin equation for a degenerate electron gas. The low-frequency shot-noise power is related to classical transmission probabilities at the Fermi level. For a disordered conductor with impurity scattering, it is shown how the shot noise crosses over from z...

We present the most complete scattering theory for noise in noninteracting case. The exact formula for spectral density of current fluctuations at finite frequency is presented in terms of scattering matrix for a coherent quantum conductor. We show that the shot noise at finite frequency in an ideally conducting contact is finite and the spectral density of the noise has a singularity at the " ...
متن کاملShot noise in mesoscopic systems
This is a review of shot noise, the time-dependent fluctuations in the electrical current due to the discreteness of the electron charge, in small conductors. The shot-noise power can be smaller than that of a Poisson process as a result of correlations in the electron transmission imposed by the Pauli principle. This suppression takes on simple universal values in a symmetric double-barrier ju...
